Grayscale with GIMP
Grayscale illuminates the depth of seriousness and complexity (drama) in a photo. Although many may think grayscale can be created simply by the touch of the "desaturate" button, there are other action that should be taken to create the most contrast in the grayscale image. We begin with our awesome image of Amy Lee (courtesy of Evanescencewebsite.com):
Open a new image and paste the photo above. On the top toolbar found in the window containing the pasted image, hover under "colours" and select "desaturate".
With desaturation, the photo should look like this:
To enhance the contrast and brightness of the Amy Lee image, edit the "curves". This can also be found in the "colours" section. Make sure the dot is placed anywhere in that third rectangle.
Ta-da! You've done it! The perfect dramatic pose of Amy Lee with the perfect grayscale colouring! Fantastic.
