Owner: Cristina
Website: Life2Cris

Life2Cris has a variety of resources - from useless Photoshop actions or Paint Shop Pro scripts to
redistributed fonts that made Dafont's Top 100 List (ooh, is that the Evanescence font?). How useful! In general, Cristina's level of graphic design isn't eye burning nor is it groundbreaking or unique. A lot of the graphic resources look like they took less time to be made than it takes for someone close the window to the site. Although the resources page visually looks impressive, in terms of the number links and pages, it's no better than a site that solely provdies high-quality textures. Tip #1: Quantity doesn't equate to quality... perhaps bad quality, but that's just about it. Take time to explore better image manipulation techniques in order to live up to the number of resources that is currently provided. May I also remind you that coded layouts are composed of HTML and CSS? Therefore it obviously works with Freewebs? In addition, when you say PHP you clearly mean it uses PHP includes. And lastly, how can you credit yourself when you clearly stole celebrity images and put it in your "own" gallery?

Since we are on the topic of visuals, L2C's layout is "piczo-ish" although Cristina usefully reminds us that piczo sites cannot have any affiliation to her prestige domain site. I apologize for going off topic: Having a nifty domain does not entitle you to talent or any other ability perks. It's just a domain! It's something your mommy or daddy or your job at Romanian Wal-mart paid for. That's it. Back to the layout discussion: Let's just say that L2C's current layout is indeed organized, however it doesn't best reflect Cristina's abilities. Although the properties of the CSS are colour co- ordinated, the choice of colour scheme seems so dull and dare I say, drowsy. The image header is to large (in terms of height) and there isn't match going on other than a cloudy texture.I would rather prefer she use one the image headers she made in her graphic tutorials. And the choice of font isn't so hot either. Perhaps Cristina should use one of her many stolen, redistributed fonts conveniently found on the resources page.

Can Cristina teach? The Paint Shop Pro tutorials have average instructions that lead results that range from useless to hideous. The "advanced" tutorials require good old copy and paste. And surprisingly the only tutorials of actual use are the Freewebs, Piczo, CuteNews (useless and destructive, but I'll give an ounce of credit), and Wordpress, which are sites and scripts that she doesn't use currently. And one more thing, why does Cristina have Piczo tutorials when she clearly stated that she wanted no affiliation with them? Ironically, she was once a Piczo user... Hmm... What if a there was Piczo site out there that was better Life2Cris.info? Stupid stereotypes... Tip #2: Take your time to explore and experiment with your graphic ability before you teach others techniques that can be found all over the good old webernet. Also, you should add some more WordPress tutorials like integrating layouts. Maybe some more basic HTML and CSS tutorials we be off use for those dedicated piczo and freewebs users.

For a girl who spends an average of 4 to 5 hours each day updating her site, Cristina lacks the ability to credit her sources. Not only does she waste her time redistributing resources, she wastes her time claiming copyright over them. I won't list the many things Cristina needs to credit, I'm sure she knows. Also I recommend that she closes down that celeb gallery site before legal action is taken.

Life to Cris! Wake up! Your site is infamous for borderline useless resources, average tutorials, stolen content, broken links, and spelling and grammar mistakes! Maybe you should go back to sleep, you spend too much time on your site that you forget to do almost everything. Nighty night!

A Fleeting Existence

Tomorrow is the beginning a newer and hopefully more prosperous year for this humbling planet. As for my resolutions, I don't have any major specifications or conditions, but as always I'm continuing to hold my academic excellence with a strong grip, eat my veggies without nuking them with granulated sugar, try to give at least an ounce of respect to those who give me something more putrid than vomit, etc... So what I am doing for New Year's Eve? I'm not going down to Nathan Phillips Square to bring in the international year of natural fibres. I'm not going to wish I was in New York City to watch some ball fall off a building. I'm just going hang out with some friends and basque in my fleeting existence.

Isn't it so bittersweet when you think about it? A fleeting existence or commercialized-prioritized rebirth? No, I'm not some bitter hag drowning my sorrows in this blog entry. I just find it really interesting that we are always able to find good in things that are inevitably unfortunate. I guess immortality loses this game with us. Living forever - it's an amazing concept, but truly it's not for us. Knowing that you could be wiped out of physical existence makes us count our blessing more. And plus, the whole New Year's extravaganza wouldn't be so exiting if we weren't doomed for death. Here's a toast of concentrated orange juice to surviving a year!

I have finally returned to this site. I apologize to for letting my site collect virtual dust over the many weeks. As you may see, a new layout has been put up. I am still in the process of tweaking, etc. So this isn't the lasting impression I want to be conjured.

So where exactly have I been? I've been trying to live without the good old "webernet". Christmas was good for me :D Don't worry, I won't go about listing all my spiffy gifts I received. Anyways, I'm currently working on a still life painting which is almost finished. Thus, pictures of it will be posted soon...

Nighty night. Unfortunately, I have to leave everyone again to get some well deserved sleep.

I'm off to enjoy the wonders of offline life :)
I'll back soon - in time for Christmas. Perhaps a new layout will be on its way... Who knows?

Fare-thee-well for now!

Carpal Tunnel

I've been spending over an hour each day practicing a trill (on the piano) and it's too the point where my hands are either so sitff that I can't play the piano keys or that my hands or so sweaty that they just slip off. Well, I obviously am not developing carpal tunnel syndrome, but I like to call my extreme trill craziness it. I'm not a beginner in piano, actually I am very intermediate and advanced. However, I still like to perfect my trills to the last 32th note.

So I've been getting a lot of "criticism" on my in-your-face reviewing style - which I understand can be quite "heart wrenching" if you're the one being reviewed. It's obviously not meant to be taken personally, but looking at the extent of what my critique has gone - it can. Anyways, I won't "conform" my writing style to happy sunshine and lollipops, but I will consider more the thoughts of others and tone down my jokes. Man, it's hard to maintain a "universal" "status-quo" position in writing (or literature for you deeper thinkers). Why am I so cynical?

Christmas is on its way! I have no idea what I would like. I guess we all reach a point in our lives where we don't care about receiving specific gifts anymore. Really, I was never a person who would compose a thorough list of wants. I like surprises. I never minded receiving socks from an obscure relative... It's always the thought that counts. As for the weirdest gift I received - I would say that "deluxe" hole buncher.

Owner: Laura
Website: StarMonkey Designs

For a website that receives 350-850 hits daily during weekdays and much more during the weekend, StarMonkey Designs does not live up to the high amount of traffic it receives. And yes, I believe that Laura receives those amounts of hits with or without the screenshots. StarMonkey Designs is like any other stereotypical "graphic/resource" site out there - redistributed celebrity images plastered over uncreative works and resources that please legions of teenage crowds. Whoop-di-doo!

Visually, SMD's layout is something a hussy ten year old produced in a dark and dingy room after getting wasted on orange juice from concentrate. The colours used in the CSS are so diabolical compared to the pallid header image that completely relies on "blend mode" to achieve something graphically appealing. Tip #1: Either stick to those faded tones in your CSS or make the header image more dark and vibrant like that vomit purple that's the backdrop to the graphic mess. Also, the main navigation menu or bar contributes to the mess of the layout.

As for the "downloads", SMD's downloads range from deficient to borderline average. Even if you claim no copyright to copyrighted content, like fonts for instance, it is morally wrong to redistribute other people's hard work. How would you feel if I took your brushes and offered them as resources on my site even though I claimed no copyright to them? Would a stupid "I did not make them" blurb pay respects to your hard work? I don't think so at all. Also, why would you suggest for people to download CuteNews? You are misinforming your 350+ visitors! Come on Laura, you a great advantage by having many visitors - take it as an advantage to inform them correctly and to provide for them usefully! Tip #2: It is quite obvious that you want to fill up your content page as much as possible. Please take the time to create resources or give advice that is of actual use. Redistributing photography, fonts, magazine stocks, etc., shows your lack of skill (well, at least to me). If you have to steal from other people to maintain content and resources, then you obviously have not much to offer. On a lighter note, you have a lot of potential in terms of graphic design. Some of your layout headers are commendable. In general, don't make useless resources like PSP scripts or colour schemes. It doesn't take a monkey to experiment with colour settings or match colours. Before I forget, it's not convenient to make your visitors download premades to their own server.

After being declined of site quality from the previous points of interest, I am literally appalled by the somewhat functional tutorials SMD provides. They are not obviously the greatest teachings I have read, but they are useful for beginners who are starting out with their websites. The tutorials are actually explained in sentences! I am relieved that Laura did not waste her time stealing JavaScript tutorials and claiming to be an expert. However, that one "add to favourites" tutorial is questionable... At least she sticks to what she actually knows.

The most original bit of originality that is present in the website is the "Spotlight" section. It's great to showcase talent. But, to ask such frivolous and stupid questions - it completely let me down. Tip #3: Ask better questions that can benefit to your visitors.

Again I am back to being baffled by the lack of sources that are being credited. Although Laura claims to have created the majority of work, that is obviously and most definitely incorrect. In the words of some ludicrous nerds I know, EPIC FAIL! And of course, the teen friendly surfeit of site (swimchick.net) is credited. I guess she taught you well to steal fonts, make trendy layout tutorials, create a predictable "layout info" blurb, and much more. Disagree with me all you want, but you know it's true. SMD's credits are so vague that a person would have a field day if they wanted to sue SMD for copyright infringement. So what would one assume of Laura from the lack of credits? Twenty year old Laura who's a libra by the way is solely responsible for the internet's markup languages, the scripts that were used on her website, her host, and many other programs that used to create a mess of a site.

StarMonkey Designs is the interweb's (and yes, I said interweb!) contribution to gullible teenagers cashing out money to be advertised on a site that isn't even groundbreaking or even aesthetically pleasing. What we do to get an ounce of exposure. Currently, it's trendy to visit and acknowledge sites like SMD. How about in five years or so? We'll see.. Strangely, I think this site could survive and overcome the cripples of poor choices that I ignore google search results if Laura actually brushes up on the elements and principles of design or simply colour co-ordination and creativity.

And here's a "spotlight" question for Laura: Am I telling the truth or am I just bitching about?

I guess she taught you well to steal fonts, make trendy layout tutorials, create a predictable “layout info” blurb, and much more. Disagree with me all you want, but you know it’s true. SMD’s credits are so vague that a person would have a field day if they wanted to sue SMD for copyright infringement. So what would one assume of Laura from the lack of credits? Twenty year old Laura who’s a libra by the way is solely responsible for the internet’s markup languages, the scripts that were used on her website, her host, and many other programs that used to create a mess of a site.

StarMonkey Designs is the interweb’s (and yes, I said interweb!) contribution to gullible teenagers cashing out money to be advertised on a site that isn’t even groundbreaking or even aesthetically pleasing. What we do to get an ounce of exposure. Currently, it’s trendy to visit and acknowledge sites like SMD. How about in five years or so? We’ll see.. Strangely, I think this site could survive and overcome the cripples of poor choices that I ignore google search results if Laura actually brushes up on the elements and principles of design or simply colour co-ordination and creativity.

And here’s a “spotlight” question for Laura: Am I telling the truth or am I just bitching about?

I don't have sworn enemies or people put on a "to kill" list, but I always have people who happen to exist alongside me that are just nuisances. Well, technically, we could all be nuisances if you look at the bigger picture. Everything and anything can annoy and pester anyone. However, there are people who "specifically" find it gratifying to criticize you as much as they can or even ignore you. They could be jealous, competitive, skeptical, indignant - only they know their thought process. I know ignorance is never the key to solve any social/relationship problem, but simply withdrawing oneself from "juvenile games" is an intelligent way of not dealing with these kind of people. Sinking down to their primitive level doesn't make things any better. But, why can't I untangle these thorns? Wait a minute, thorns can't be tangled in the first place. But, the branches can - maybe the "root" of all these problems isn't a nuisance. Perhaps, it is ourselves that make the nuisances out of others... That definitively makes more sense. I'm off to do some patching up.

What's my stand on still life painting (in terms of naturalism and/or realism)? As stated previously, I am a very technical and analytical person - so one would not surprisingly think that I am into capturing landscapes and still life in my art. However, I'm not - although still life can be very beautiful and eye-popping, I don't find any other significance or even beauty in its impression. Painting still life can be a wonderful means of technical practice, but truly that's it for me. I know many artists base their career on their still life works, e.g. Rembrandt, but it has never been something that amazed me that much. So what exactly am I into? Well, I'm "love" with Surrealist, Frida Kahlo. Don't get me wrong, I am very "realistic" in terms of my style. I'm not a cubist for example. So what the hell was the point of this entry?

I really don't know. I felt like expressing my feelings towards still life before I complete my still life assignment. For those who know me (in "reality"), I don't believe in art class or specialized art school - I pretty much believe in self-improvement and development, etc. I have art as an elective because it was either this or business (and I hate money management and thought of money). Moving on, I'm having a struggle gathering a collection of objects to paint. I plan on using oil on canvas. Maybe I should put a little surrealist twist? I always do...

For those who love using my textures, here are twenty-four new textures to experiment with. I'm running a little dry on ideas on brushes, I've actually been playing around with brush concepts for weeks. A new brush set(s) will be coming soon.

Some new music:

(Smells Like Teen Spirit - Tori Amos)

I am always so inspired by Tori Amos' music. Her music is serene yet edgy and gritty. Years back, she decided to cover Nirvana's hit, "Smells Like Teen Spirit". It's definitely different that Kurt's "misheard yells". This version is amazing! Do you guys know of any other peculiar covers of that song? I know Flyleaf has done a cover, it's pretty much the same thing with a female voice.

I know that the year is not over yet, but I wanted to compile a "list" of the trendiest of trends (in web/graphic design) that occurred in the international year of the potato, also know as 2008! If you are wondering about the name of this segment, the word modish is defined as trendy or fashionable. Come on people enjoy the rest of this year because it's never coming back! Let's get down to business:

The trends that occurred in web and graphic design in 2008 range from atrociously abominable to surprisingly condonable. Trends, they can make us or break us - I'm not a person who shuns the idea of trends because if a trend is commendable and actually of use, then I'll totally promote it. However, there are the most weirdest and peculiar trends I have ever seen?! Anyways, here's the good stuff:

Review Services
This one is definitely '08's contribution to the most annoying yet sometimes rewarding groups of words placed together - the review. Reviews are great - they give you a second opinion on your work, which should help you improve. But, there are the reviews that contribute less than a person dumping oil into the oceans. I know it's not the most kindest thing to criticize ability and quality, but you're honestly doing that person more of a favour than complimenting everything about the site. Come on, be bold and say what you feel and really think (unless your completely brainless)! It's hard to not to make a review sound personal, but making some jokes here and there really make a review more interesting and less personal.

Rubrics can be very practical, if calculated and evaluated correctly. I find that rubrics are hard to conduct because the reviewer really isn't like a teacher - they don't have concise evaluation rules and regulations. Thus, the marks given are usually guesstimates or biased. If you prefer the structured rubric rating style of a review, be sure to show how many marks would be deducted for certain flaws. This helps the "reviewed" understand why they got two stars out of five stars.

Commenting Craze
With the increasing popularity of CuteNews (grr...), HaloScan, FanUpdate, WordPress, or any blogging platform out there, web designers find seem to think that the number of comments defy their level of popularity - which is true in some terms. However, they convert that popularity to talent. Comments have their advantages - both negative and positive. They encourage the web designer, as well as build returning visitors. But, comments are not everything! They do not define your degree of skill, they may defy your popularity - but not skill. Also, popularity doesn't necessarily equate to capability.

A lot of web designers are returning comments, which is courteous and respectful. But, when you comment on other people's site just to get comments on yours, then that's just pathetic and sad. It's similar to that affiliate craze in which people apply for as many affiliates as they can so that they gave exposure and popularity. Another thing that makes my laugh are those people who urge their visitors to comment in their blog. Talk about desperate. If your blog entry is interesting, motivating, or useful enough then you'll be sure to get a fair share of comments. If it's not, then you'll get none - deal with it, it's not the end of the world. I am so annoyed by those who complain about their lack of comments in their blog entries.

Texture Background Layouts
I really love that vintage, grungy, or retro effect that a layout can conjure. A lot of layouts now are taking advantage of the dirty-scratchy looking textures to further that effect. However, some people are taking it too far to the point where the more text is being buried into the already busy background. Oppositely, people are creating text backgrounds (in solid colour) that completely clash with the texture background. So what is my objective? I'm trying to urge you all that either of these "solutions" are pointless, useless, and utterly hideous. But, not give up on the retro-ish, vintage, grungy layout theme dream! All you need to do is make the opacity light enough in the text background so that it compliments both text and layout.

Some Dirty Laundry
Trends always reoccur, no matter how much that totally burn our eyes or waste our time. Here's a list with some useless trends that still show up after all these years:
colour schemes (as a service)
gradients (as a service)
poorly written disclaimer blurbs
icon textures (Aren't there regular textures? It's called resizing!)
confusing link names (i.e. YOU, ME, WWW, etc.)
People calling transparent background cut out images of celebrities image file format names like PNG or PSD
notating credits through "x's" or any other minute cute letter at the footer of a page
stolen JavaScript tutorials that only work on poor and undated web browsers
redistributing fonts
pedophile-attracting "biographies" with minimal sentences placed on a sidebar and a floozy dingy photo

Do any of things sound familiar? Well, they should. At one point in our "web designing career", we've all stumbled upon these twaddles of trends. I'll admit that I used to depend on CSS to create my layout. We all have our moments. Speaking of CSS, horribly styled CSS will always be dominant. Therefore, it isn't necessarily a trend. It's more like the wrong to the right, the no to the yes. I'll stop with that opposite crap. Always remember to keep your mind open to choices. Take time to learn and experiment, maybe someday you'll dawn an awesome trend.

Trends Gone Right
"boycotting" CuteNews
validating CSS and HTML
the popularity of using PHP in your website
using PHP Includes as an alternative to iframes
having patience to be reviewed and actually improving
the decline of celebrity images in web design

What's in store for '09? Who really knows, but I'm excited to see what we'll come up with!

Owner: Danielle
Website: Whoa Baby

WHOA!!! Baby? Interesting choice of a website name... I'm sorry, but my teenage immaturity is
totally finding a lot of sexual innuendo in the choice of words linked together as a website name. I apologize for my utter infantilism.

Moving on to a more useful advice and comments... Whoa Baby is "represented" by an incompleted cut out image of Ashlee Simpson also known as a "PSD" or "PNG" by teenage dingbats when clearly PSD and PNG are image file formats, not transparent background images of useless celebrities. Okay, where was I? Oh yeah, the bogusly innocent and dodgy image of Ashlee is plastered over brushes that contribute less than a person walking into a wall. At least the colour scheme is maintained. Tip #1: Smaller height. More optimization. More originality.

The CSS is nearing the borderline to being atrocious. First off, the text margins are way to close to comfort. I know you obviously wanted to maintain the colour scheme of the header image, but you need to choose darker tones of the two main colours because the contrast between the bolded text and white background, for instance, is melting away my vision as I type. At least the text size isn't making me smash my retinas into a blender...

Uh oh, I see redistributed content in the content page! Danielle even lists where she jacked them from. LOLZ, her terms and conditions page even allows for others to redistribute her "work" with permission. That's just hilarious! I know that colourlovers.com is a site that allows users to share their "creations" (I never knew it took skill to match colours and come up with a "deep" sounding names, but I give the site some kudos for the patterns) to others for distribution. Anyway, it's not right to provide other people's work as a service from your site. It is okay to use their work in conjunction with the layout. The gradients are also "works" of that site. Whoa Baby inconvienitly makes its visitors download "their" colour schemes onto a mysterious program that has a .grd file extension. Danielle, you should make the courtesy to tell your visitors what program they will be using when they download those inept gradients. As for the coded layouts, I see a lot of HTML in the Cascading Stylesheet (CSS). When clearly Danielle separates the "coding" from the "CSS". Aren't they both coding? The layouts aesthetically are clones of your PSD-PNG-WHATEVER-THEY-ARE-CALLED-BRUSH COLLISION image headers. Tip #2: Better quality and more useful resources! If you cannot accomplish that task, then you shouldn't be providing graphics/resources to guillible teenage crowds. Oh wait, they wouldn't know the difference anyway. That explains the millions of hideously useless graphic sites that either worship celebrity "PSDs" or that pretenious "novel" series, Twilight.

As for the tutorials, Danielle definitely over-exaggerates the difficulty level of them to prove to herself and to the visitors that her site is useful. Par exemple, the "advanced" picture tutorials - come on, even a blind dog can follow the input instructions with ease. The little intro blurb in your PHP Includes tutorial really fascinates me. Yes, PHP can be really tricky, but what's tricky about PHP Includes? There are barely any PHP needed in PHP Includes. I guess this concept of copy and paste could be difficult for ditzes like yourself (just kidding...). Tip #3: You should explain to your visitors why one would use PHP Includes or why one would image map. A list of instructions isn't the only thing that makes up a tutorial.

It's CREDITS TIME! I'm going to go straight to what Danielle has forgotten: paper-hearts.org, colourlovers.com, and Paint Shop Pro. Also, you need to credit where you learned about HTML, CSS, and PHP Includes. I highly doubt that an average girl who dresses in Hollister and takes pictures of herself from a mirror came up with the internet's markup languages. I give Danielle kudos though for crediting most of her sources.

After all these discrepancies, I am rather surprised that Danielle reviews other websites. What on earth is with this trend in reviewing websites when clearly the reviewer has no or little skill whatsoever? Anyways, I find that Whoa Baby's reviews are has helpless as a broken telephone. Come on, you should be more honest and helpful in the review. I don't blame you though, your lack of experience should reflect a borderline useless review. You should also explain in more depth why marks are taken off each section - unless you totally randomize the mark to your liking. Okay, I'm going to stop there before I'm rejected from the pearly gates.

Altogether, Whoa Baby is a place where all my pet peeves of the internet meet up for brunch. With much more experience and experimentation, Danielle should be able to take her level of web/graphic design to a much more unique and useful level. The only question is, could she handle the truth enough to make change? We'll see...

Moving on to a more useful advice and comments… Whoa Baby is “represented” by an incompleted cut out image of Ashlee Simpson also known as a “PSD” or “PNG” by teenage dingbats when clearly PSD and PNG are image file formats, not transparent background images of useless celebrities.

At least the text size isn’t making me smash my retinas into a blender…

Uh oh, I see redistributed content in the content page! Danielle even lists where she jacked them from. LOLZ, her terms and conditions page even allows for others to redistribute her “work” with permission. That’s just hilarious! I know that colourlovers.com is a site that allows users to share their “creations” (I never knew it took skill to match colours and come up with a “deep” sounding names, but I give the site some kudos for the patterns) to others for distribution. Anyway, it’s not right to provide other people’s work as a service from your site. It is okay to use their work in conjunction with the layout. The gradients are also “works” of that site. Whoa Baby inconvienitly makes its visitors download “their” colour schemes onto a mysterious program that has a .grd file extension. Danielle, you should make the courtesy to tell your visitors what program they will be using when they download those inept gradients. As for the coded layouts, I see a lot of HTML in the Cascading Stylesheet (CSS). When clearly Danielle separates the “coding” from the “CSS”. Aren’t they both coding? The layouts aesthetically are clones of your PSD-PNG-WHATEVER-THEY-ARE-CALLED-BRUSH COLLISION image headers. Tip #2: Better quality and more useful resources! If you cannot accomplish that task, then you shouldn’t be providing graphics/resources to guillible teenage crowds. Oh wait, they wouldn’t know the difference anyway. That explains the millions of hideously useless graphic sites that either worship celebrity “PSDs” or that pretenious “novel” series, Twilight.

As for the tutorials, Danielle definitely over-exaggerates the difficulty level of them to prove to herself and to the visitors that her site is useful. Par exemple, the “advanced” picture tutorials—come on, even a blind dog can follow the input instructions with ease. The little intro blurb in your PHP Includes tutorial really fascinates me. Yes, PHP can be really tricky, but what’s tricky about PHP Includes? There are barely any PHP needed in PHP Includes. I guess this concept of copy and paste could be difficult for ditzes like yourself (just kidding…). Tip #3: You should explain to your visitors why one would use PHP Includes or why one would image map. A list of instructions isn’t the only thing that makes up a tutorial.

It’s CREDITS TIME! I’m going to go straight to what Danielle has forgotten: paper-hearts.org, colourlovers.com, and Paint Shop Pro. Also, you need to credit where you learned about HTML, CSS, and PHP Includes. I highly doubt that an average girl who dresses in Hollister and takes pictures of herself from a mirror came up with the internet’s markup languages. I give Danielle kudos though for crediting most of her sources.

After all these discrepancies, I am rather surprised that Danielle reviews other websites. What on earth is with this trend in reviewing websites when clearly the reviewer has no or little skill whatsoever? Anyways, I find that Whoa Baby’s reviews are has helpless as a broken telephone. Come on, you should be more honest and helpful in the review. I don’t blame you though, your lack of experience should reflect a borderline useless review. You should also explain in more depth why marks are taken off each section—unless you totally randomize the mark to your liking. Okay, I’m going to stop there before I’m rejected from the pearly gates.

Altogether, Whoa Baby is a place where all my pet peeves of the internet meet up for brunch. With much more experience and experimentation, Danielle should be able to take her level of web/graphic design to a much more unique and useful level. The only question is, could she handle the truth enough to make change? We’ll see…

Website: Mirotic

Let's see: eye-friendly layout colours and CSS, not under/over sized header image, generic-less site name... Things in the mirror appear closer than they seem.

Looking for aesthetically into the website layout, I find that images can be more optimized. The image used in the footer headers appear to be a blob of smeared poop that slightly resembles a butterfly. I know you take a lot of pride in using the "transparent-follow-you-down-a-page" horizontal navigation bar, but you should jazz it up a bit so that the links are more noticeable when they are both still and moving. Since we are on the topic on the main navigation links, the order of links should be changed. I find it more organized if they are ordered by: HOME, SITE, RIN, REVIEWS.

The credits page! Wow, I acutally have nothing to say. Never mind, I do (not much though). You need to credit Feedburner, PR Checker, and of course, Extreme Tracker. Excellent job with crediting the credits. How creditable.

You have a good style of reviewing: you review both layout and coding. Kudos are enforcing eye-friendly text :D You should also concentrate more on the website's content and review truthfully the quality and accessibility of the services they provide. I know that appearance is top-notch in this physically sustained world, but it's nice to dig a little deeper.

Arrgh, I'm running out of things to say! Anyway, the truth is that your website rocks in terms of organization and its current content. Create more content to attract more varieties of visitors. It doesn't necessarily need to be pre-made graphics! Patch up on some grammar and you'll be set to sail.

(Wow, this review is so minuscule..)

I did it! I folded and organized all my clothes in my closet. Even with fancy shelves and hooks in my closet, an organized closet last about 48 hours before it turns back into a pile of clothes caving out. I'm hoping the neatness and organization lasts for at least a week before everything goes back to normal.

I re-wrote my auto-biography, which I think is concise enough for those who want to get to know me more. I updated my graphics portfolio too. I know everyone is anxious to see my painting and other artwork, but I am still working on collecting everything at once. I hate slowly adding things one by one. Plus, I'm not allowed to touch the good camera. I have to use my sister's stupid "HP Photosmart", which is crap. That's why she has it :D

My weekend has so far been composed of many school assignments, which I'm totally used to (being in IB entitles me to loads of homework). Thus, it will continue until Sunday and so forth. Blast the Past will be coming soon! I'm actually excited to "re-review". I was supposed to get a hair cut and go to the mall today. That obviously didn't work out... I'm not really mall person anyways, I hate walking around for hours looking at clothes and shoes. It's not my thing, unless it's Christmas shopping. I prefer to go shopping for other people, not myself.

To remind you all, I have a ten year old, non-verbal and severe autistic brother. So you all can imagine how interesting my life is. It's more than interesting. Autistic kids have "fazes" in their lives where they perform certain "rituals" because they have strong physical senses. Anyway, my brother's current faze is rolling circular objects and chasing them around. Most Autistic kids do this when their in kindergarden. He's ten years old, you do the math. Today he was rolling his favourite plastic wheel as usual when it rolled underneath the couch. It was funny, he was trying to pry his head under the couch in order to reach it. Then he tried to use other objects to fish it out. Of course he started to scream and yell because he was frustrated (that wasn't so funny). After I pushed the couch over and retrieved his long lost plastic wheel. And all was restored in my household until he rolled the wheel outside on my driveway to the road. Another headache. Meh, I'm used to it.

Here's some new music:

(Until We Burn in the Sun - Bedouin Soundclash)

Owner: Hannah
Website: Leaving Town

My tour begins at the homepage of Leaving-Town.org - a site that provides avatars, futile colour schemes, link bases, "gorgeous" brushes, colourization tutorials uselessly disguised as icon tutorials, and hopefully soon-to-be resourceful reviews. I give you kudos though for not having confusing and misleading names for the main navigation links. Well you know I'm going to ask this question, but I'll ask it anyway: will this website make me want to leave town?

The layout mainly uses colour blocks from the CSS, which itself has advantages and disadvantages. The overt contrast between the blue-ish-green-ish colour blocks to the obscure gray toned background manifests itself with an uncentered navigational bar and main header image that shows up lighter in browsers that support older versions of PNG. Although PNG image fromats are better for smaller sized images, it's useless when the image is plastered over a hexadecimal colour coded background. Tip #1: If you are going to use a hexadecimal colour code on the background, save the header image as a JPG file. Although your header image may appear satistfying on a browser like Internet Explorer, it doesn't on others. If you still wanna stick with PNG then have the background be a PNG image file. You choose. Another point I'd like to bring up in this little tip blurb is that you need to fix the positioning in the #navigation so that the navigation bar "auto" centers itself to any computer resolution. You don't need to use the longer <li> codes to achieve a slightly centered job. All you simply need to do is:

width: the percentage each link will be taking up out of a hundred;
float:left;
text-align: center;

That was a mouthful. Another kudos for not using the despicable CuteNews. BlogBox, a newer alternative made by another-perfect-world.org. The only thing that bothers me is the whole number achieves link business that's happening at the footer. It's not really appetizing. What if you entries reached a hundred pages? Tip #2: This can be found in the previous sentence which is merely self-explanatory.

CREDITS TIME !!! Looks decent - I'm not loving the clash of the underlined links in general. However, you forgot a truck-load of stuff! For instance, website host, domain host, HTML/CSS/FTP/PHP tutorials (come on, let's get real this all didn't come from the top of your head no matter how "dorky" you are!), fonts, BlogBox, photo manipulation program(s), FanUpdate (for your review site), and that handy-dandy mail form. I think that's just about it! Whoops, I forgot Vasili's (another-perfect-world.org) ask and answer script.

For the resources part of the site, I find that it is slightly lacking in terms of usefulness. Ah, the dreaded colour schemes shows itself again! Link button bases... Not very beneficial. I know it helps with the whole affiliates-advertising thing, but come on it doesn't take a rocket scientist... no, I'll stop at that. Besides some of the reused graphics made into link button bases are too cluttered to put any visible text - no matter how much glow and flash you overdose into it. Tip #3: More useful resources like textures, stock images, HTML/CSS/PHP tutorials, and even more brushes will have your visitors not leave town (stupid parallels...)

It's interesting having sites with "review" services request a review from you. I like the previews on the main page. What a feeble cliffhanger - ooh! Whoa? Why aren't you also reviewing the CSS and or PHP of a site? You know, I think coding is the most important "element" cause it pretty much allows for a accessible and un-eye-burning experience. I find that your reviews aren't as beneficial as they claim to be. Listing every possible trendy web application doesn't make a review a review. And you grade so tediously! Come on, give the grade or kitties they deserve. You telling them that their "awesome" doesn't help anyone. I found that some sites that disappointed you were even better (in some terms) than the narrowed text-blendy banner sites that marveled you. Well at least the colour scheme owns the one on the actual site. I know you don't review "Facebooks" (bad grammar! its facebook accounts/user pages), but come on why would you include that restriction anyway? How can you review a Facebook user page? "Oooh, Highschool Musical 3 is a no-no!" What I am a saying? You probably dig that prosy movie secretly. Just kidding...hehe :D

I find that you judge sites more on appearance although you mention some additional advice, which obviously isn't fair. I know that appearance is an important factor, but a great website isn't a great website for its nice layout only. I know that aesthetically appealing sites usually equate to great resources. But who knows? People vary. Plus, the sites that you admire based on appearance aren't very mind-blowing in terms of well-made and original graphic design. If I were to take a glimpse at your website's layout without checking out other pages, I would see an almost colour-scheme-less layout with dodgy un-optimized text smashed over a collision of "artistical" brushes. What do you think? Doesn't sound awesome, does it? It definitely doesn't. Nonetheless, you have a great site altogether. And you said it yourself, life is way too short. It's way too short to waste on glimspes. But it's long enough to find some truth.

P.S. I might come back for some visits. More souvenirs please!

I find that you judge sites more on appearance although you mention some additional advice, which obviously isn’t fair. I know that appearance is an important factor, but a great website isn’t a great website for its nice layout only. I know that aesthetically appealing sites usually equate to great resources. But who knows? People vary. Plus, the sites that you admire based on appearance aren’t very mind-blowing in terms of well-made and original graphic design. If I were to take a glimpse at your website’s layout without checking out other pages, I would see an almost colour-scheme-less layout with dodgy un-optimized text smashed over a collision of “artistical” brushes. What do you think? Doesn’t sound awesome, does it? It definitely doesn’t. Nonetheless, you have a great site altogether. And you said it yourself, life is way too short. It’s way too short to waste on glimspes. But it’s long enough to find some truth.

P.S. I might come back for some visits. More souvenirs please!

If anyone didn't read my little "about me" page, I'll let you guys know that I am a feminist. I'm not a part of some flashy organization or club. I just live day-to-day trying to practice gender equality. I love subscribing to news feeds, there's always something interesting and enriching to discover. Although it's finitely fact, we can always expand our minds through our opinions on the situation that is being archived.

So when I story about a nine year old from Yemen who has divorced a man who abused her strikes me, it really strikes me. Arwa, was sold for $150 by her father to a man in his forties who was interested in marriageable girls. Abdul Ali, the man interested in marrying Arwa, promised Arwa's father hat he would wait for her to reach puberty before living together. However, he changed his mind and decided to move in with Arwa's family. So for seven months, the "blossoming" couple shared a small room together in the family home. I'm sure that Arwa knew that she wasn't in store for a nurturing marriage. Whenever Arwa disagreed with Ali's demands, she was beaten horribly. Arwa had to endure emotional and sexual abuse from this horrible man dehumanized her. Eventually, she was able to loan enough money from a neighbour to get to court. Fortunately, the judge had enough humanity in his/her heart to grant her freedom from the monster. Source: BBC News

I know that Arwa's father did not want all this to happen to his daughter. But you should never bargain with someone else's life. I know he wanted some money to provide for his family, but do you really provide for your family when you allow for your own family member to be dehumanized? I am so proud that Arwa had the courage to take action on her disastrous situation. Not only did she escape, she did something efficient about it - she made sure that he would never come back again to any marriage. I know that she made history for being the youngest person to have a divorce, but honestly, who really cares? I don't think she cares. But, this historical happening, reminds us all that the world is cruel place for even the youngest of people.

...

I actually have some site updates! I re-vamped the graphics section of my portfolio. Also, I re-vamped the textures section and added some new textures.

Do you guys recall the missing fifteen year old kid who went ran away from home and went missing all because of his obsession with the "Call of Duty"? If you want to a recap, clickity click! Well it looks like that the search as come to a tragic end. On Wednesday, a body to believed to be his was discovered kilometres away from his home. Wow, one minute your alive and well and the next your gone. Was this all fate? Or was it merely an accident? It brings me to the topic of fate and freewill and how that will always and infintely stumble us. I'm going to stop with my endless philosophical ramblings... My prayers go out his family. Materials can be what drives our life, it can also drive us to a dead end. If you want to read a more detailed article, clickity click.

You've all probably read like a million blogs praising the victory of Barack Obama. Although I live in Canada, I'm am so relieved that a wonderful leader like Obama will be having relations with with Canada. I'm not going to assume that he'll be the most rocking president of America, but I guarantee that he'll attract more awareness and interest, especially in the youth. Well, he already has, there were so much more younger votes!

So what's up with my life? It's good even with loads of self-stress on me. I am working on the reviews for all you people who were wondering where on earth their reviews were. In real life, I'm not organized by material means - meaning I don't have the cleanest room or the most organized files. The same goes for my review "services". I consider them as more of a leisurely blog that is not bounded by rubrics and sub-headings. Yet, I have very good time management skills. I'm really good at planning and remembering things - you know mental stuff :P .

The Review Special: I'm going to revisit sites I have reviewed and see if they really improved. I'm going to call this little segment, "Blast the Past". It's a little play on words from the popular phrase, "blast from the past." Beware (hehe, just kidding!).

Remember my little post about false idols and how the praise for the Twilight series connects with that theme? If you wanna be refreshed, clickity click! Some people were feeling my stand on the topic, others weren't (which I'm perfectly fine with). So recently, well today, I got an interesting comment/opinion on that entry:

I think you've gone too far. You hurt far too many people. Please be careful of what you say, and who you say it to

It really got me thinking on my personal style of writing and how I like to exaggerate the degree of something in other to point out a statement. I'm not going to totally disagree and bash the somewhat anonymous person who took the time to type this out. However, I'd like to clarify that radical and open-minded opinions that aren't self-righteous are perfectly acceptable. I know sometimes the reality of subjects, like trendy novels, can be hurtful and disappointing, but that's the fun of reading blogs or literature in general. I'd rather be more aware of what I'm being exposed to than accept and not question everything that's thrown at me. Come on, some people your age aren't even allowed to speak up on their viewpoints! Use your benefits in living in an accepting society to speak up for righteousness or even a different idea towards a popular novel series. You have more power than you think.

Moving on to a lighter topic, as everyone may notice, I'm back on track with my freelance and unorganized review "services" called, Nothing But Truth. If you wanna read my latest work of literary genius, scroll down or click the "reviews' link on the main navigational bar. Anyway, I came up with the coolest concept ever! After I complete around ten reviews, I should have a little blog-reviews special where I return to the sites I've reviewed and see if they really handled the truth. You know, if they actually evolved as a web/graphic designer. Sound good?

Owner: Patricia
Website: Fusion

I am welcomed to "Fusion" by a multi-coloured mess of blends, "stylized" fonts, and a random brush of writing. And for the icing on top, there's a revolting meant-to-be-texture background that completely clashes with the meant-to-be-trendy header image that isn't even aligned properly to the top of the page. Why the hell are texture backgrounds with completely un-matching header images trendy? I know people are trying to go for a "vintage" or "grungy" look, but it looks really horrible. At least Pat (can I call you Pat?) didn't put the text on the texture.Tip #1: Make sure everything matches in the layout. Don't use brushes for the heck of using a brush. Make the website name more visible and matching with the model images.

Time for the rest of the layout. *Scrolling... * Whoa?! What's with the white background for the text? I know it's "eye-friendly" with the black text, but come on - the contrast between that and the hideous texture background isn't so hot. Tip #2: Stick to the colour scheme established by the header image, s'il vous plait. In general, layouts with random headers attempted to be blended in random backgrounds doesn't work out - especially when hideous text boxes follow right underneath it.

I'm gonna try to make this part quick. The CSS is okay. The text size could be a tad more larger to balance with the grotesquely large header text. The colours are good though. But, the main navigation bar isn't very complimenting to the rest of the CSS. First off, the dotted border below each link is unnecessary. Secondly, that annoying and pointless pink bar to the left of each link is just a stupid decision. Lastly, try not to centre the some of the text in the navigational bar when clearly the headers above them are aligned to the left. Okay, I'm not finished yet - it's not a good idea to tell your visitors that your layout is only viewable in IE. Try to make your layout more browser compatible.

Time to learn about "Miss Patricia"! Again with the mis-alignment of text! If you want the text to be centered then center your header text. Also, try to describe yourself in full and complete sentences.

Here's my favourite of the review: the premade content! Above the link that lead the visitors to the resources are set of rules:

No stealing in any way, which includes: redistrubuting without permission, taking off or erasing credit or claiming as your own. Do not send any hatemail. Do not claim that I have stolen anything from anyone. Thank you and enjoy!

I'm like a hundred percent sure that Pattiecakes broke rule number uno herself. Okay, maybe she did credit her celeb photo sources - you're lucky :D

With a world where we strive to find more ways to perform an action, there are simple actions that are useful and there are also simple actions that are pointless and sometimes time consuming. For example, having to drag the texture previews onto your address bar to see their full size. What if some visitor out there with an old, unupdated browser wanted to use your textures? And somehow they weren't able to drag the image previews onto the address bar? Even though the majority of people have updated browsers, it doesn't mean this means of getting a texture is handy. Doesn't having to drag an image to the top of browser sound so unprofessional and unnecessary when a handy thing called link exists? I rest my case.

Apparently it's trendy thing to offer colour schemes or palettes. It's not a difficult thing to match colours together. Maybe for you it's a little hard seeing that your layout isn't very matching. Did I add that your bullets completely clash with your so-called colour scheme? Why would you give credit to someone who can match colours together? The real question is, how can you tell someone stole your colour schemes/palettes? Colours are almost infinite! All in all, colour schemes/palettes are a stupid resource.

Let's check out the premade layouts kids! Again, with that stupid dragging action! Pattiecakes doesn't even mention that you have to perform that frivolous action to view the images. The premade layouts are mass productions of dodgy blend of images blended horribly to a colour-scheme-less background. Tip #3: If you are going to make graphics, make graphics that are actually aesthetically appealing. Just cause you make a lot of graphics it doesn't entitle you to quality graphics/resource site.

Pattiecakes, you need to review what CSS is. Possibly this tutorial I've written will be easy enough to comprehend. CSS is not HTML. CSS pretty much defines the properties of the HTML. Tip #4: Don't educate others with incorrect information that is not even explained through good old copy and paste.

After all these problems, I am actually surprised that Patricia attempted to compose a credits page. Unfortunately, she left out a lot of other creditable credits. Par exemple, HaloScan, CPanel, Extreme Tracking, Tiny Pic, Plug Me, your FTP Server Program, your free MyFlashFettish music player, the stolen music of that music player, the list goes on... Tip #5, and hopefully the last: Credit everyone and everything (I won't even bother to type that in capital letters).

Patrica/Pat/Pattiecakes, I respect that you've taken the initiative to start a graphics site. Always remember though to take the initiative to face the truth. There's nothing wrong with experimentation and advancing your graphic design skill to a level beyond trendy teen blends and colourizations.

My spontaneously made costume turned out to be a zombie Hogwarts student. Trust me, I'm not one of those Harry Potter fanatics. I had use one of my sister's costumes, which didn't exactly fit... I pretty much smeared tons of eyeshadow and dark lipstick around my eyes and lips. Trick-or-treating went well. Yes, my brother did grab the whole entire candy bowl and dumped it in his bag. It was so funny seeing the older neighbours try to lecture him. It was even funnier when my sister and I had to explain that he was Autistic. I saw some other people my age trick-or-treating too. However, they weren't even in a costume. They walked around with garbage bags filled with candy. You're never to old to trick-or-treat, but at least attempt to dress in a costume. Halloween isn't only about getting free candy.

On the topic of candy, I completely overdosed on chocolate bars. Chocolate is pretty much the only thing I'll eat from the trick-or-treating, except for those occasional gummy bears. I got a lot of 'Kit-Kats' and 'Coffee Crisps', so now I'm sick and tired of them. Here's a little list I've composed of my all time favourite chocolate bars in no particular order:
Hershey's Cookies n' Cream (Did you guys hear about the recalls of Hershey bars? Nothing will ever separate me from them. Okay, maybe that will.)
Crunchie
Caramilk
Crispy Crunch
Wonderbar (I got none of those :( )

Last night, I stayed up to 3:00 am watching horror movies. I watched some of the Saw movies and the Halloween series. I've seen them so many times that they don't scare at all. In general, I don't find horror movies that scary. As a matter of fact, I usually laugh through the gory scenes. I'm one of those people who don't get nightmares from movies.

As you can see, I changed the CSS of the layout. If you wondering at all, the photography in the banner was taken my me. It's a view of Lake Ontario from Queen's University. I really love the intricate silhouette of the three branches. With some handy colourizations and textures I was able to create fleurchild.com's eleventh layout. I guess I'm in the round boxes faze. Before I came up with this layout, I had created five other layouts. Yep, it takes a while for me to decide which one will be displayed on the site.

Before I forget, would anyone like a review from me? I haven't had any requests in a while. If you are a frequent visitor, you'll know that I have a different style of reviewing that can be very harsh and comedic. If you want to check out previous reviews I've done, simply click the 'Reviews' link on the sidebar.

Happy Halloween!!!

Well, my plan to achieve Halloween-themed activities didn't really work. There's always next year! I'm going trick-or-treating with my younger siblings. My brother who's ten years old is a severe non-verbal Autistic (hehe, funny I didn't mention that before) so it's hilarious when he trick-or-treats! He'll grab the person's candy bowl and pour the entire thing in his bag! Then, my sister and I will have to explain that he isn't a greedy child. I'm used to it. I'm used to his behavioural problems, tantrums, hair pulling... the list goes on.

Here's a a Halloween e-card I made for my friend: Clickity click! . The character in the image is from a Spanish movie called "The Orphanage". It isn't a horror movie with gore, it's more of a tragic and suspense story about a woman who suffers because her son is missing. She finds out in the end that her she accidentally killed her son. Jam-packed with ghost themes and tragedy, the movie is a great alternative from over-exposed Hollywood blockbusters.

& yes, there's a new layout with the old CSS! I will be definitely changing that after I return from my quest for candy. Man, I'm gonna piss off the neighbours again. They always complain about my age and how I'm too old to walk around begging for candy. For my costume: I have no bloody idea, I guess I'll see what my spontaneous skills pull off :D
