Starting a Fansite

Do you pretty much worship a certain celebrity or muscian(s), etc.? Do you want to start a site all about that certain obsession? Well, your in luck, because today you'll learn about what you'll need to do in order to create a successful fansite!

Website Layout/CSS

The website layout has to be organized, it needs to have a professional side to it. You do not want a confusing layout with hard to find links and a clutter of text and images. When making a fansite, you obviously need to use [insert celebrity/musician(s)/etc. name(s) here]'s image somewhere in the layout. Do not create a 800px by 800 px banner! Try for a 500px width and a 400px height. For the areas where the text will appear, use solid colours - that means no patterns!

The most important part of the CSS is the text and links, without them you site wouldn't be much of a site. Keep the text at an eye-friendly area - meaning around 15px and a colour that contrasts with the background. And for the spacing of the text, keep it a 0px or 1px. Please, no negative numbers - it is so annoying!

Homepage

For all fansites the homepage of the site (index.htm/php,etc.) must be an update blog on [insert celebrity/musician(s)/etc. name(s) here]. It is more convient to find the news this way. Trust me, you don't want someone to type www.yourfansite.com/subfolder/subsubfolder/subsubsub/folder/news to find the main purpose of the website.

Main Links

Here's a list of main links that you should have:
  • Home
  • About [insert celebrity/musician(s)/etc. name(s) here]
  • Media
  • Interact
  • Site

    Crediting

THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT SKIP THIS!

Always, always, always, always give credit to your source whether it's for news, photos, biographies, etc. for else you are disobeying the copyright laws, therefore the person who owns what you stole has the right to sue you. It's a good idea to create a designated "Credits" page with all your sources listed. Also, for item you used from an outside source you should put a credit to the source below the item.

TRY TO CONTACT THE OWNER OF THE IMAGE/BIOGRAPHY, etc. AND ASK FOR PERMISSION TO PUT THE ITEM ONTO YOUR SITE

    Final Thoughts

Good luck with your fansite endeavors! Be sure to follow these guidelines and you'll be sure to get tons of hits! If you don't wanna get stuck in the copyright-crediting-mumbo-jumbo then try to write your own biographies.
