Domains
Paid domains - .com, .org, .net, etc. Domain names have been in greater demand these days - seems like we all want our "identity" on the net. I've noticed a lot of graphic sites getting domains, I've also noticed a lot of graphic sites going on in their "blogs" about how they are in such need of a domain name.I'm not here to diss the popular domain names out there - as you probably noticed I have a .com domain. Domain names are great, since they are so well-known it makes it much easier to remember (unless the site name is freakishly long and complicated).
But, I'm here to speak out on the purposes of purchasing a domain name. Getting a domain name should be purchased because it's "trendy" - it should be a serious decision made in order to take our website to the next level. Just cause your rich daddy will purchase you one it doesn't mean your entitled to awesomeness or even visitors. You are no better than someone who has a free domain name or no domain name.
I find that some people are so desperate for an internet "identity" that they enter useless free domain contests that offer domain names that are even harder than .tk or .co.nr. In addition, I really find it rude that people don't credit their domain host (or any other sources in general) for their domain they so desperately wanted. It's hilarious to see how far we degrade ourselves to conform to what popular trendy sites tell them to do.
What is wrong with us? Our "identity" on the web shouldn't be based on how much money we cash out on a name, but rather what our site offers to the world. When you purchase your domain down the road, make sure you are buying it for the right reasons. Also, don't waste your money on a stupid trendy-sounding domain name. You are free to be yourself, don't let the internet bind you.
