Nowadays, when you visit practically any website out there you'll see some sort of commenting script or widget on a website's sidebar or already integrated into the blog. Having your visitors comment on your site or blog is great - there's nothing wrong with receiving criticism or compliments. But, when it's the only thing you care about in terms of having a website, well, that's a problem.

Starting a website should have this objective in mind: sharing what you have to offer (hehe, that sounds kinda funny) to the world as simple and user-friendly as possible.

Here's a question I'd like to throw everyone: would you close down your site if people frequently posted comments based on your website's content that were hurtful?

Here's a little metaphor: would you stop being you if other people picked out your flaws one by one? You shouldn't stop being you, you accept your flaws and respect other people's opinions towards you. At the same time, you should always strive for improvement. We don't start out perfect, nor do we end perfect - but our flaws make us want to live a good life more. My answer: I wouldn't close down my site or banish the comments. I would accept the reality of the situation and move on. I would consider the advice, if given, from the comments and improve.

After reading what I've written above, I bet you're all wondering why I wrote this. Well, I stumbled upon many sites that have closed down due to disrespectful visitor behaviour. It's good to hear both sides of the story - negative and positive. But, we are still human, we aren't robots - we have emotions and feelings. So I urge you all to be honest site visitors, but to slightly tone down what you have to say that is negative - make it so that it sounds less personal, rather more professional.
